A detailed history of the development of air transport operations in New Zealand from the early pioneering flights and the development of passenger and air mail services through to the major impact impact that the Erebus accident had on its civil aviation administration, which was reorganized in the 1990s on the recommendations of the Swedavia Report. The 1948 Tymms Report, the 1951 Pacific Survey of Seaplane Alighting Areas (PACSSAA) and the operations of South Pacific Airlines (SPANZ), Kiwi Airlines and Freedom Air are amongst the subjects discussed.
