Abstract:
- This is the autobiography of one of the Royal Air Force's most colourful characters. His career spans the period from 1934, when he joined No 602 Squadron and served under the Duke of Hamilton, to 1968, when he retired as Air Officer, Scotland and Northern Ireland. During the war he fought in the Battle of Britain, Palestine and Malta. The author was with the Duke of Hamilton when Hess landed in Scotland and he includes a fascinating account of these events as later told to him by the Duke. When the war ended, his tally of kills was eight, and four probables. He later served in the Far East, where he joined the Malayan Air Force and saw front line activity in Borneo. "Diary of an Aviator" is a lively account of a fascinating career.
