  • In 1934 Hawker Aircraft Ltd purchased the Gloster Aircraft Co and in 1935 announced plans to join Armstrong Siddeley Development Co Ltd, which included aircraft manufacturer Sir W G Armstrong Whitworth Aircraft Ltd and A V Roe & Co Ltd. This led to the formation of a new public holding company, Hawker Siddeley Aircraft Co Ltd. The constituent companies continued to produce aircraft of their own design under their own names as part of Hawker Siddeley Aircraft, including the 14,500 Hawker Hurricanes. In 1948 the company name changed to Hawker Siddeley Group Ltd and the aircraft division became Hawker Siddeley Aviation (HSA) and the space technology division Hawker Siddeley Dynamics. Folland Aircraft Ltd and de Havilland Aircraft Ltd was acquired in 1959, along with Blackburn Aircraft Ltd in 1960. In 1963 the names of the constituent companies were dropped and all products rebranded Hawker Siddeley. In 1977 Hawker Siddeley Aviation and Hawker Siddeley Dynamics, then 25% of Hawker Siddeley Group's business, were nationalised and merged with British Aircraft Corporation and Scottish Aviation Ltd to form British Aerospace.
